Tweed valve combos

Morris Guitar Amplification Tweed Range

INTRODUCING THE TWEED VALVE RANGE - FOUR VALVE COMBOS BASED ON THE CLASSIC DESIGNS OF THE 1950s AND 1960s

Morris™ Guitar Amplification are excited to bring you this range of four classic valve combos whose design is based upon the iconic guitar amplifiers of the 1950s and 60s. These amplifiers are hand-built for us in China to the highest standards and from the best components.

They feature Tweed covered plywood cabinets, well specified power and output transformers, good quality Chinese made speakers and valves. The amplifiers are hand-wired using turret boards in the same way that the great amplifiers of the 50s and 60s were built.

The range consists of four amplifiers in three power ratings. There are two 5 watt models, one with an 8″ speaker, the other a 10″, a 20 watt model with a 12″ Celestion Vintage 30 speaker and a 40 watt model which has two 12″ Celestion Vintage 30s.

Feedback from buyers:

Tweed 5-10

"I purchased this 5-10 in the hope it would give me something I could play at a sensible volume, produce a sound I actually like, and hopefully give me back that feeling I had when I first started playing 20 yrs ago.... Well, what can I say? It's exactly what I needed. As I mentioned, I was nervous that it would sound like every other 'cheap' amp I've played through. It's absolutley perfect. Everything I needed and hoped it would be. I've even brought it into work with me so I can play at lunch time!"
Stephen from Wales
"I’d just like to say how impressed I am with my Tweed 5-10. I was looking for a quality amplifier to use at home and small gigs with my electro-acoustic that would do the guitar justice. What initially attracted me was the warm natural sound but over time I’ve been able to really study it and am very impressed with its build quality, it is beautifully made. It is extremely solid and the tweed covering is put on very well. The fabric joints are perfect which I wasn’t expecting for the price. With the Celestion speaker, valves glowing behind, it oozes quality in build, design and sound. Its a pleasure to own."
Luke from Hampshire

Tweed 20

"The Tweed 20 is a crazy old fashioned style amp which produces loads of power tube distortion and is completely different from modern amps. The sound is so much more 'alive' , 'expressive' and 'characterful'"
Richard from Derbyshire

Tweed 40

"A fabulous amp, loud, clean just what I was looking for for pedal steel guitar... ...I am very impressed with the amp. A great 50's/60's sound." Allan from Hertfordshire "The Tweed 40 is a sensational amp opened up, at least on a par with the super reverb which is lovely but different, and streets ahead of the hot rod deluxe and better than the 68 custom deluxe which is characterful but noisy. I now think the Tweed 40 is about as close to my perfect amp without spending £2.5K on a Fender 57 Tweed Twin"
Richard from Derbyshire

Tweed 5-8

The baby of the range, this 5 watt combo measures just 33cm x 32cm x 19cm and weighs less than 8Kg making it the perfect practice amp for the home.

This is a class ‘A’ design based upon the famous Fender™ Princeton 5F2A circuit with a 12AX7 preamp valve driving a 6V6 power valve into an 8″ speaker. Power is supplied to the amplifier by a 6Z4 rectifier valve feeding a resistor/capacitor PI network to give the classic valve sag when the amp is overdriven.

Featuring the legendary ‘Orange drop’ capacitors for optimum tone, the amp is hand-wired with the components mounted on a turret board and so is built in the same way as the amps of the 50s and 60s as well as the much more expensive boutique amps of today.

Tweed 5-10

With the same 5 watt, class ‘A’ amplifier as the 5-8 but with a 10″ Eminence EGTR-S1010 speaker in a larger enclosure to give extra oomph in the bass frequencies. This amp measures just 37cm x 38cm x 23.5cm and weighs just 10Kg .

Tweed 20

The Tweed 20 offers the perfect balance between size and power, small enough to be used at home yet powerful enough to be used for gigging. It features two input channels, a Normal and Bright Channel with common tone control. Each channel has a low and high gain input to allow maximum flexibility with guitars with high output pickups and effects pedals.

Based upon the legendary 1957 Fender™ Tweed Deluxe 5E3, considered to be the seminal valve amplifier of its age, the preamp consists of two 12ax7 valves feeding a dual 6V6 valve class ‘AB’ power amp delivering 20 watts of classic valve sound into the Celestion Vintage 30 speaker. A second amplifier output socket allows the amp to be connected to an external speaker cabinet, or cab simulator.

As with all the Tweed range the amps are hand-wired using the classic components and construction techniques of the legendary amps of old. A 5AR4 rectifier valve supplies the power to the valves.
